Where, when and how

It’s SOUPerbowl time !   On Tuesday 5th March 2019 we have two SOUPs back to back (we must be crazy).  Our Junior SOUP social entrepreneurs will take to the stage at 6.30pm to tell us how they got on with their projects and hoping to secure your vote to lift the Downend Junior SOUP cup.
We then take a breather to enjoy Alan and Mel’s soup and start our grown-up SOUP at 7.30pm through to 9pm
You can come to either event or both as you wish.  We’ll also be transferring to our new venue – the main and renewed Parish Church in Downend.  Parking as usual at the Parish Hall car park.
We take no money up front.  When you arrive on the night we kindly suggest a donation of £5.  If you’re on a reduced income, pay what you feel able – we want everyone to take part regardless.   If you wish to come to both events, it’s still just one donation.
Families are very welcome to all our events and in particular Junior SOUP.  We think it’s really important our children get their own voting coin and think about how they would change life for the better in our community.
We don’t formally request a donation for kids tickets but happily accept whatever you feel willing to donate, after all every penny goes to our winning cause.
And finally if you want to come but for some reason prefer not to share your personal data with the Eventbrite platform, drop us an email  and we can sort this for you.
Each of our events so far has been happily a “sell-out” so don’t hang around, reserve a place today

What happens with your money

We started and intend to continue to run this project with a very clear commitment that every penny coming through the door goes to the winning causes with nothing deducted.  The more people who come, the more that’s donated on the door, the more that goes out in community support.
We achieve this through a wonderful network of businesses and private individuals who help us with in-kind donations – sometimes as simple as buying cardboard cups for us to serve soup in.   If you’d like to be one of these SOUPer champions, we’d love to hear from you.

What you can expect at our SOUPer event

Junior SOUP is a little different to our regular events.
In October our audience heard three groups of primary school-children presented their idea for a socially inspired project they will run over the course of the 2018 / 2019 school year.   Together with a grant of £300 from Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Council and your donations we created a fund of £770 for the children to draw down and realise their project.  They’ll work on these through until march and then return to tell the community what they have done with the money.
On 5th March, our junior social entrepreneurs take to the stage again.  They’ll explain how they have built and run their social enterprise and the results of their efforts.  Our audience will vote for their favourite and the votes from both events will be tallied and the winner receiving the Downend JUNIOR soup cup.
Then at our grown-up event you’ll hear three ideas to change the world around us, vote for your favourite and as always the idea with the most votes will walk out with all the door money plus this time any left-over funds from Junior SOUP to bring their idea to life.
Bring friends, bring family and yes children are very welcome – we think it’s really important that they also get a say in their community.

Business in the Community

Downend SOUP s powered by Christ Church Downend and owes massive thanks to Melanie’s Kitchen, Chattertons Cafe, Downend Round Table, Downend Chamber, Becky Henderson, Harts Bakery of Temple Meads, JoJo’s Sourdough Baked goods Staple Hill,  Redland Bakery of Staple Hill, Gav Ball, Fancourt Music, Giuseppe English, Craig Athony’s and Greggs for their support in meeting our objective that every pound in, goes straight out to do good in our community.  Down to the very last penny.

Our ambition continues to grow so if you’d like to help us by donating something we need to run the event do let us know
